Blinded Past

painting

acrylic on canvas

Date

2024

format

25 x 30 cm

The image shows a classical bust statue that alludes to Michelangelo's David. It is painted in monochrome gray tones, which draws the focus to the shape and texture of the motif. The most striking deviation from the classical style is the silver shimmering horizontal line that covers the eye area of the face. This is designed with metal leaf, which creates a contrast between the matte coloring and the shiny surface.
On the one hand, it stands for concealment and anonymity. The silver line symbolizes the concealment of identity. It emphasizes that the eyes, which are traditionally considered the "window to the soul", are covered.
The combination of classical art form (bust) and modern intervention (silver stripe) is intended to represent reflection on the confrontation between past and present.
The work is intended to invite critical engagement and creates a balance between aesthetic enjoyment and depth of content.
